Four of the five members of our first North Pole Flight arrived today in Longyearbyen, and before they could even catch their breath they had embarked on their first adventure. When Izchak, Roberto, Evangelos and Antonio stepped off the plane from Oslo there was little doubt they were now in the Arctic. The wild winds and swirling snow welcomed them to this ice world where weather dominates everything. They switched from their travel clothes into Arctic outerwear and in no time at all they were driving snow mobiles to a remote ship that is frozen in a pristine fjord.
When the winds calmed there was a stunning view |
The blowing snow made visibility a challenge for much of the trip but when the winds calmed the team was treated to a spectacular view of this Arctic island, where fjords meet mountains and seals and polar bear rank among the most popular residents.
Approaching the Noorderlicht from Temple Fjord |
A great view from the ship's deck, especially when the winds are calm. |
Make sure to listen to the audio report from the team, and check back again tomorrow for another update!
